The Team
The PL Solutions team consists of a variety of people with broad experiences in Project Management, Commonwealth Procurement, Engineering, Logistics, Safety and Certification delivering our services to the public sector.
Our people come from supporting careers in the Public Sector, Australian Border Force, Department of Defence, and the Australian Defence Force including Navy, Airforce and Army and other Government departments. Additionally, other members of the team have had private sector careers in communications and radar systems, mechanical and electrical engineering (and most other disciplines), while to remainder of the team have had more general careers in project management, financial and business analysis fields. Team members are continuously encouraged to develop and broaden their contribution across all aspects of our service delivery.
Our team have strong conceptual and analytical skills to support a number of innovative approaches in the delivery of business outcomes across our functional areas — project management, procurement, contract management engineering and cross-discipline support.
Our team have worked in both large and small organisations and has a particular ability to identify key commercial, project and technical issues, determine the most appropriate solution and proactively engage participants and stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.
The PL Solutions team are experts in their relevant domains building on lessons learned and collaboratively providing optimal outcomes, advice and guidance both internally and externally to our clients.
Managing Director
Mr Darren Toohey
Darren has over 25 years’ experience in the Australian Public Service, in addition to approximately 10 years in the private sector. He is a former Executive Level Director in the Department of Defence and Customs and Border Protection. His qualifications include a Masters in Business and Administration, an Advanced Diploma in Project Management and an Engineering Honours Degree in Naval Architecture. Early in his career he completed an apprenticeship in fitting and machining and followed this with an Associate Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
Today Darren is an accomplished Project Manager with experience across the complete project life cycle from understanding the strategic intent of an Agency, to approaching the market, solicitation, delivery and transition to sustainment of high value, technically complex, capability solutions to meet business objectives. He has delivered these solutions often in high risk and schedule constrained environments.
Darren’s program and solicitation skills support innovative yet compliant procurement and contracting arrangements; with a “fix it” reputation for projects that have encountered business or technical difficulties combined with effective negotiation skills to deliver client objectives within constrained schedules.
Darren is a Member of the Australian Institute of Project Managers (AIPM), and the Royal Institute of Naval Architects (RINA), which also maintains his Engineering Chartership.
Darren believes in achieving outcomes for clients with an ability to deliver services himself in a consulting role, or through the mentoring of other team members; always dealing in an ethical manner.
